How to demistify relationships with Jyotisha

relationships

Relationships in Jyotish is a Universe of its own. Below are some relationship hors-d’oeuvres. If they whet up your appetite, keep checking in for more. There will be more of these coming in from time to time.

Please do keep in mind though that like everything else in Jyotish, these should NOT be considered in isolation when trying to interpreset a horoscope.

Love affairs

A Sambandha between the bad boys (Saturn, Mars) and good girls (Venus, Moon) indicates love affairs. In fixed or dual signs, the Sambandha indicates a secretive affair. In movable signs, it indicates an open affair known to the world at large.

Love affairs are also indicated when there is a Sambandha between:

  1. Lagnesh and the 7th lord (long-term)
  2. The Lagnesh and the 12th lord (long-term)
  3. The Lagnesh and the 5th lord (short-term)
  4. The 5th and 7th lord (short-term)
  5. Lagnesh, 5th and 7th lord (long-term)

The 1st lord indicates the self and the 7th lord inciates the “other” which in case of relationships is the partner / spouse. For a majority of cases, involvement of both these lords is a pre-requisite for the relationship to be classified as long-term.

The 5th lord inciates romantic encounters. The 12th lord indicates “bed pleasures” which in ancient times indicated marriage (since pre-marital sex was a big taboo). In mordern times, involvement of the 12th lord could indicate a fulfilling sex life which could form the basis of a live-in / long-term relationship eventually leading to nuptials.

Add the 8th lord to the mix and that could indicate affairs of the naughty kind a.k.a. extra-marital affairs, friends with benefits, sexcapades and so on. Basically anything that is tabooed by the moral police and therefore needs to hidden under the sheets (no pun intended).

Inimicable relationships

When the 1st and 7th lords are in a 2-12 relationship, there will be mostly likely be differences of opinion in the relationship. If they are in a 6-8 relationship there are likely to be conflicts / quarrels.

Dominating / Controlling partner

If Saturn is in the 1st house then the native is likely to dominate / control the relationship. If Saturn is in the 7th house, the partner / spouse is likely to dominate / control the relationship. In all other cases, the individual with the malefic sign will be the dominating / controlling one.

Seperation

If the 7th house, 7th lord and / or Venus are under the influence of separative planets (Rahu, Ketu, Sun) or the 12th lord, some form of enstrangement / separation is indicated. This separation could be physical, emotional, mental or a combination thereof.

Additonally, involvement of Saturn, Mars, 6th lord / 6th house could mean legal separation / divorce of an unamicable nature.

Multiple marriages

I highly doubt that when the Rishis of yore divined Jyotish they had divorces and multiple marriages in mind. Nonetheless, the times have changed. Modern seers like Mantriji (to whose lineage I belong), though hidden in plain sight, have helped preserve the timeliness of Jyotish.

Per Mantriji, in addition to the usual 7th house analysis of relationship karma, the longevity of relationships and/or marriages can be deciphered from the condition of the 2nd house and its lord (using Bhavat Bhavam – 8th from the 7th). The second house therefore (just like the 8th) becomes the house indicative of endings and resurrections for relationships. For subequent relationships it would be the 8th from 2nd and so on.

Here’s another way of looking at multiple marriages. In many cultures, individuals would marry the younger sibling of their deceased partner. Hence, 2nd marriage would be indicated by the 9th house (3rd from 7th) which would indicate younger sibling of the deceased spouse. Subsequent marriages would be 3rd from 9th and so on.
