A comprehensive guide to Tajika Yogas

Tajika Yogas are the simple and powerful cornerstone of the Tajika Prashna and Varashaphala techniques. Master these Yogas and you are on your way to mastering these techniques.

General considerations

  1. Speed of planets relative to each other is an important factor in the many of the Yogas. Order of planets from faster moving to slower moving is as follows : Moon, Mercury, Venus, Sun, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn.
  2. Each planet has a defined Deeptamsha (orb of influence).
    • Sun : 15 degrees
    • Moon : 12 degrees
    • Mars : 8 degrees
    • Mercury : 7 degrees
    • Jupiter : 9 degrees
    • Venus : 7 degrees
    • Saturn : 9 degrees
  3. Two planets are considered to be aspecting each other if they are in Bhavas that are (counting inclusively) :
    • 1 – 5 from each other (visible friendship)
    • 3 – 11 from each other (hidden friendship)
    • 1 – 7 from each other (visible enemity)
    • 4 – 10 from each other (hidden enemity)
    • 2 – 12 or 6 – 8 from each other (no aspect)
  4. A planet is strong if its own Rashi, exalted, in its own Drekkana or its own Navamsha.
  5. Rahu and Ketu are not used in Tajika Yogas.

Yogas

  1. Ikkavala Yoga :
    • Formation : All planets in Kendras (1, 4, 7, 10) or Panaphara (2, 5, 8, 11) bhavas.
    • Outcome : This yoga is considered favorable for the outcome of the Prashna.
  2. Induvara :
    • Formation : All planets in Apoklima (3, 6, 9, 12) bhavas.
    • Outcome : This yoga is considered unfavorable for the outcome of the Prashna.
  3. Ithasala : This is the cornerstone of all Tajika Yogas. It determines whether there is a relationship between the Lagnesha (querent) and the Karyesha (ruler of the house pertinent to the subject matter of the query).
    • Formation :
      1. The faster moving planet is behind the slower moving planet.
      2. There is a mutual Tajika aspect between the two planets.
      3. The two planets are within the average of their individual Deeptamshas.
    • Outcome : Indicates a positive outcome with regards to the query.
    • Variations :
      • Duphali Kutha : Ithasala where the slower planet has strength. It adds strength to the favorable outcome indicated by the Ithasala Yoga.
      • Duthotha Davira : Ithasala where both planets are weak but one of them forms an Ithasala with a 3rd planet that is strong. This indicates a favorable outcome with the help of a 3rd party.
      • Tambira : Bhavishyat Ithasala and Karyesh or Bhavesh forming an Ithasala with a 3rd planet that is strong.
      • Manau Yoga (Hart’s definition) : Ithasala where Sa and Ma inimically (1-1, 1-7, 4-10) aspecting (within their individual Deeptamsha) or conjuct either or both the Lagnesha and Karyesha. Cancellation of the Ithasala and therefore unfavorable outcomes regarding the question asked.
  4. Isharafa Yoga : This yoga indicates that the event already took place or the opportune time for the fructification of the event has passed.
    • Formation :
      1. The faster moving planet has moved past the slower moving planet (beyond 1 degree).
      2. There is a mutual Tajika aspect between the two planets.
      3. The two planets are within the average of their individual Deeptamshas.
    • Outcome : Indicates unfavorable outcome for the question on hand.
  5. Nakta Yoga : This Yoga can be considered to be an “assisted” Ithasala Yoga.
    • Formation :
      1. The Lagnesha and Karyesha are not in a Tajika aspect.
      2. A 3rd planet that is faster than both of them “connects” them by forming:
        • An Ithasala with both
        • An Isharafa with both
        • An Ithasala with and and Isharafa with the other
    • Outcome : Favorable results with the help / intervention of a third party. Outcome depends on position, ownership and dignity of the 3rd planet.
    • Variation
      • Yamaya Yoga : Everything else being the same except that the 3rd planet is a slower moving planet than the other Lagnesha and Karyesha. The outcome is also favorable, however, with delays (because of the 3rd planet being the slowest moving one).
  6. Kamboola Yoga :
    • Formation :
      1. An Ithasala Yoga between the Lagnesh and Karyesh.
      2. Moon forming an Ithasala with either one or both of them
    • Outcome : Fortifies the Ithasala Yoga thereby increasing the changes of a favorable outcome. It indicates a mental preparedness to doing what it takes to achieve the desired outcome.
    • Variation :
      • Gaira Kamboola : The Moon in the last degree of a sign and will form and Ithasala with either one of both of them once it enter the next sign. Indicates favorable results albeit with a slight delay.
      • Khallasara (Hart’s definition) : The Moon doesn’t form an Ithasala with any other planet. Indicates unfavorable results regarding the subject matter of the Prashna.
  7. Rudda Yoga :
    • Formation :
      1. An Ithasala Yoga between the Lagnesh and Karyesh.
      2. When one of them is retrograde, weak (debilitated or combust) or posited in a Trik Sthana (6th, 8th or 12 bhavas)
    • Outcome : If retrograde then there is cancellation of the Ithasala and therefore and unfavorable outcome (the party indicated by the Retrograde planet backs out). In other cases, the Ithasala is weak and therefore lower chances of a favorable outcome.
    • Variation :
      • Durapha Yoga : When both Lagnesh and Karyesh are retrograde, weak or posited in a Trik Sthana (6th, 8th or 12 bhavas), everything else remains the same.
  8. Kutha Yoga (Hart’s definition) :
    • Formation :
      1. An Ithasala Yoga is not formed between the Lagnesh and Karyesh.
      2. Both planets have strength and are posited in a Kendras and/or Panaphara houses.
    • Outcome : Indicates a chance of success, even though there is no relationship between Lagnesh and Karyesh, the strong avasthas indicate a strong desire to materialize the event thereby overcoming the limitation of a missing relationship.
