Houses 3, 6, 10 and 11 are Upachaya houses. These houses get better with time. Malefics do well in these houses since they give the power to overcome the difficulties that these houses represent.

Houses 1, 4, 7 and 10 are known as Kendra (Angular) houses, houses 2, 5, 8 and 11 are Panaphara (Succedent) houses and houses 3, 6, 9 and 12 are Apoklima (Cadent) houses.
The Panaphara houses pertain to some source of income and the Apoklima houses are generally considered good for spiritual development.
Below is a very interesting observation about the 10th house which is regarded as the most powerful and significant of the kendra houses.
One of the Jyotish axioms states that a person will empty Kendras won’t be able to achieve much in life since Kendra are the houses of “action” and there isn’t a planet taking responsibility for “action” in the chart. As with everything in Jyotish, there are always exceptions to the axiom but nonetheless an interpretation technique worth keeping in the back pocket.

None of the planets are particularly good for relationships when placed in the 7th house.
The Sun in the 7th tends to make the person dominating and overbearing in relationships thereby leading to the partner feeling suffocated and eventually wanting to break free.
Mercury in the 7th can make the person very superfluous about relationships. The person could easily get bored of the relationship they are in and start looking out for the next best thing in sort of an infinite loop.
Venus causes excessive desire which in turn could lead to dissastisfaction and infidelity. It also triggers the “karako bhavo nashe” principle and therefore not helpful at all.
Mars in the 7th being the warrior that he is, causes conflicts and subsequent emotional bruises.
Saturn results in separation and detachment that might also be perceived by the other person as selfishness.
Lastly, even Jupiter causes problems because the person tends to go overboard with relationships with regards to giving too much and in turn expecting too much which could make the partner feels overwhelmed and suffocated at the same time.

The “end-of-self” bhava
The 12th house can also indicate self-destructive/suicidal tendencies that could arise from depression (due to loneliness) leading to an urge for escapism via some sort of physchadelic or behavioral addiction.
The 12th house being the 9th house (father) or our mind (4th) indicates our Purvajas or forefathers a.k.a. Manasputras. It therefore plays an important role in determining the “quality” of our mind. In turn a “good quality” mind provides protection from the trapping of the other dusthanas namely enemies, thieves and mistakes (6th) and vices (8th house).
